The largest and busiest fresh water port in Canada, Hamilton Harbour plays an important role in the movement of domestic and international cargo throughout the Great Lakes and along the St. Lawrence Seaway.
Base to two tug companies, ship drydocking facilities, ship chandlering, bunkering, rail and ro-ro container handling, it has more than 11,000 m of docking facilities for light commercial vessels, bulk carriers, tankers and ocean-going cargo vessels.
The port is also a centre for marine research and education, home to Canada Centre for Inland Waters and the HWT Centre. It is also home to HMCS Haida – a popular public attraction and national historic site.
Prominently located on Pier 8, with state-of-the-art facilities, Hamilton Harbour Marine Training Centre, operated by the Hamilton Waterfront Trust, is a fully-accredited commercial marine course provider issuing Transport Canada certificates of qualification.

- Marine Emergency Duties (MEDA3)
- Small Vessel Machinery Operator (SVMO)
- On-Water Small Vessel Manoeuvring (OSVM)
